Scars on Broadway (often referred to as Scars or abbreviated as SOB. It is nowadays known as Daron Malakian and Scars on Broadway) is a System of a Down side project originally founded by System guitarist, Daron Malakian in 2003.

Early Days (2002-2003)[]

The band originally consisted of Daron Malakian on lead guitar and vocals, Casey Chaos (front man of Amen) on vocals, and Zach Hill on drums. The group quickly disbanded, but a rehearsal known as The Ghetto Blaster Rehearsals was recorded and leaked onto the internet. Originally thought as new Scars on Broadway material, many fans wondered if this was really legit. But, Malakian later announced in a November 06, 2007, blog announcement that the supposed "demos" were not new material. In fact, the demos were nothing new and had nothing to do with the current project.

Self-Titled, Dictator, And Modern Day (2006-2023)[]

After System of a Down's hiatus began in the summer of 2006, the band gained new life. Without System to worry about, Malakian had plenty of time to focus on his new band. Daron later announced that he had recruited System drummer John Dolmayan to play drums for Scars. He also revealed that he also recruited bassist Shavo Odadjian for the project but was no longer mentioned as a member of the band in later interviews. His status with the band is currently unknown. In March of 2008, the band's website was launched with a time counting down to 15:00 (3:00) PM PST with a message that stated, "THEY SAY ITS ALL ABOUT TO END" and it was uncertain what this was counting down to. But, when the timer reached "00:00:00", it was revealed that the timer counted down to a new song entitled "They Say"

On January 22, 2008, the band announced through their Myspace blog that they would be playing their supposed first show at the 2008 Coachella Festival, on Saturday, April 26th in Indio, California. It was also revealed on March 31st that the band would be playing KFMA day on May 16th in Tucson, Arizona with heavy metal band, Metallica. Scars played their first show, which was a surprise, on April 11, 2008, at the Whisky a Go-Go in Los Angeles, California.

A while after releasing their debut album, the band would go on a short hiatus due to many reasons. in 2009, Scars on Broadway performed at 4 camps in both Iraq and Kuwait without Daron Malakian. that next year, all of Scars played at only 2 concerts. sometime in 2010, Casey Chaos sued Both Daron Malakian and Serj Tankian due to copyright issues with Systems song BYOB and their version in 2003. there were constant member changes all throughout the 2010s and finally stopped in 2018 with the release of Dictator.
